Beta Testing New Features. Posterous, Account Management, Good Reads #dmingml

We've released the latest features to beta testers. The've been given a bunch of tasks and will be getting back to us in the next few days. So appreciate the extra time they are putting in!!!

This process should reveal any small bugs that are left. I'll keep you posted as to progress.

Upgrades Coming... Including Posterous #dmingml

We're in the middle of finishing up our latest upgrades. These include:

Personal Accounts
Personal Service Administration
Posterous as a Services
Good Reads as a services
plus, we're making the whole system faster, better, stronger.

For the last month we have been building and testing these features on our development machines. We're going to be moving this all to the beta server as soon as possible and then upgrading for you guys to use as soon as we know all is well.

Several of the changes we've made will help us solve problems much faster as we continue to add services and features.

We really appreciate your patience and will update you again over the next few days as we get stuff rolled out.

Thanks
Dave

Mobalized Version is Out! #dmingml

Whew...

That took forever, but we were finally able to squirrel away some time and get the mobile URL control and functionality pushed out to the server. This, and one more feature, will be the last features we push straight to the server. The rest will be tested on a beta server first, and then folded in.

The mobile site uses a mix of JavaScript, CSS and HTML to create alternative views of the dmingml.com website. Right now, the features are restricted to viewing and commenting on content. We'll be updating the UI with new features over the next few weeks as a crop of upgrades are released.

Please have a look and let me know what you think. The URL is m.dmingml.com. Auto switching will start happening once we know the final UI and features based on your feedback. Message @dmingmltech with ideas and bugs. Please make sure you tell us what device you were using.

A note about iPad, we're still testing! And we should have some answers shortly. Just when we have everything square, Apple releases an upgrade and it kills our work. More soon on that.

Thanks for your patience,

Dave

The dam is gonna break - Fixing Bugs #dmingml

Tomorrow we'll be combing through the list of bugs with a fine toothed comb. Shortly after that, we'll be diving in and tackling the issues related to content not getting posted.

We believe (but need to confirm) that our requests for data are getting throttled when they are sent to the originating service. We're looking at how to "play nice" with the originating services as each one is different and has a different tollerance for requests.

We'll keep you posted as we dive in and address issues.

Thanks for your patience.

What We're Working On - Accounts, Bugs and Setting up a Beta #dmingml

The past few weeks have been really exciting. And not always in a good way!

Two weeks ago we were pushing a new feature to the server and POOF! The server didn't like what we were doing. Everything locked up and stopped playing nice. An intense 45 minutes resulted in a reboot, a refactoring of code and getting things back to what they were.

So, determined to NOT have that happen again, we have started up a BETA server for our BETA app. Overkill? Not really, and here is why.

When we first started, we knew that there was going to be bumps. However, the assumption had always been that there was going to be a limited audience that would suffer with us through growing pains. Well, the project has been successful beyond our expectations. To date, we've had almost 3k unique visitors and 7k+ page views. Each person is looking at 2.55 pages per visit and the average time on the site is 3+ minutes. So folks are reading what is being done!

So, we need to manage this growth in a way that doesn't blow up the server again. Thus a beta server for our beta app. This is where we mimic the server in every detail, except that its for testig, and we can assess things in realtime, before they are launched to a server.

We're about 75% done with getting the server set up, and we should have that wrapped up shortly. Lemme know if your interested, and I'll let you know more about the server and you can see what we're doing.

Something to keep in mind... this will be a separate data stream. So we won't be duplicating content or asking more work from you. If you're curious the tag will be #dmingmlbeta.

Bugs
Delicious is still giving us real problems, and two Facebook accounts are not behaving. We're working on those so we can get that sorted as soon as possible.

Features
Right now we've finished off a couple of new features that will help talk about what you guys are working on and provide some context for visitors that are not in the program. We've almost wrapped up the user profile feature, where you'll eb able to login and administrate your account and the services you use.

We'll be rolling these out as soon as we've been able to make sure that the system is working as intended on the beta server.

As always, lemme know if you have questions below and you can always tweet me at @dmingmltech

Thanks
